Medical insurance cards of foreign health insurance companies are not accepted in Costa Rica. It is advisable, therefore, to look for a travel health insurance. In medical cases, the costs usually must be paid and later you can receive a refund from your home country insurer. Therfore you must save all medical receipts and documentations to present to your health insurer.
